What changed on this list
Every destination is re-probed daily. When a submission page starts returning 404 the destination drops off the lists; when it answers again it goes back on. Both are recorded here. A directory list without this page is telling you it was accurate once.

Public directory lists rot roughly 5-8% a quarter. Most of the lists you can find — including most of the ones on our own list — were assembled once and never re-checked, which is why they send you to 404s and to sites that stopped publishing years ago.
Dead is a two-strike rule here. A 404 or 410 twice in a row is a dead page. One failure, a 5xx or a connection error is transient and only marks a row unverified, because one bad afternoon is not an obituary. What 404s is the submission page, not always the company — Figma Community and Capterra UK are both perfectly alive, and both stopped answering at the URL that used to take submissions, which for this list is the same problem. A 401, 403 or 429 is not a failure at all — it is a bot shield, and G2, Crunchbase and SourceForge all answer that way to a robot while being entirely alive.
How the checking works
- Probed daily, every destination, not a sample.
- Dead rows stay in the data so this page can report them; they are hidden from every list.
- A recovered destination goes straight back into the lists on the next rebuild — nothing is deleted on one bad reading.
Questions
Why does this page matter to a submission run?
Because a run aimed at a list this stale spends its effort on 404s. The share of a quoted destination count that is still alive is the number that decides what a run is worth.
How is this different from the date on other lists?
A date on a page is a date the page was edited. This is a record of what was probed and what moved, which is checkable.
What happens to a destination that dies mid-run?
It stops counting. Our packages are priced on listings that go live, so a destination dying is our problem, not the customer's.
